Biography:

I graduated from Brandeis University in 2003 with a degree in Biology. After spending 2 years researching the pathogenesis of cholera in a cell biology lab, I felt I needed a new approach to address my growing concern for the health disparities between high-income and low-income countries. In 2005, I traveled to Tanzania where I taught high school biology and health and volunteered at Tanzania non-profit organization that provides HIV/AIDS education and prevention methods to youth. Through my work and life experiences in Tanzania, I became motivated to become a nurse to provide direct medical care to underserved populations, identify challenges faced by the nursing workforce in Sub-Saharan Africa, and develop solutions to address the growing global nursing shortage.

I have lived and worked in Tanzania (East Africa) for 1.5 years, and am fluent in Swahili. I would welcome opportunities to translate any type of document from English-Swahili or Swahili-English.

Quotes:

  • "it is from the numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. each time a [person] stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, s/he sends a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." - robert kennedy
