Screenings in Papua New Guinea

22nd November. This page is under construction, sorry for all the mess. The screening information is correct.

In one of the countries most at risk from the threat of Climate Change, the response to the film was staggering. It seems that everyone backed the film, from the National Television Station to the Governor's Office and on the 22nd September The Age of Stupid was broadcast at prime time on National Television.

Papua New Guinea was one of the great success stories of the global launch. They were behind us right from the start and had some pretty big plans including a primetime screening on the main TV channel and giant screens across Papua New Guinea. The following email was received on the 9th September 2009;

Hi Ben
I met this morning with Grace, the head of the Governor’s PR team. They will put up the big screens. And will also organize the photographs etc…
 We are adamant this is an important awareness because the audience in this country still think they live on Planet B!!! Some of them have yet to draw the connection between the global phenomena and the impacts faced in this country etc… Grace is ready to assist and said it would be nice to take a sneek preview of the film so we could decide if we needed to organize activities in between to keep the audience interested. It would help in strategizing on how to “handle” the audience.
Do you think we can take a sneek preview? If not, would you have any tips etc.. Let me know.
Other issues discussed was on the use of EMTV signal. That issue will have to raised at my meeting with EMTV, hopefully tomorrow. My Boss will also be present at this meeting.
Will keep you posted…

 After the event we received the following email;

 Dear Ben,
Many apologies for not contacting you as soon possible due to emailing problems. The screening went well, though not as exactly as we wanted it to be, but it was aired on the National TV.
Thank you so much for your assistance.

We were constantly amazed throughout the preparations for the global launch at the amount of hard work ordinary people put in to organizing events in their country. Many thanks to Effery Dademo, Sylvia Avitu, Ruth Benson and everyone else who worked so hard to get the film seen by so many people in Papua New Guinea.

On September 21st / 22nd, on the eve of the UN General Assembly's climate session, The Age of Stupid was launched internationally at the biggest and greenest live film event the world has ever seen. A-list celebrities walked the green carpet to an eco cinema tent in downtown New York, linked by satellite to 700 cinemas in 50+ countries. Take a look at the photos below from the events around the world and see the Global Premiere page for the full report.

The Age of Stupid DVD double-disc extravaganza, in 31 languages and with more than six hours of Extras is now available to pre-order here. From October 5th anyone anywhere can buy a license to screen The Age of Stupid in their school/pub/church/multinational oil corporation.
