Quotes from Funders
MARK B
One of the funders of Franny's earlier film, Drowned Out, and the very first investor in Crude.
"I was lucky enough to be able to put some money into Drowned Out and see it win critical acclaim and millions of viewers. We are now facing the possibly catatclysmic consequences of global climate chaos, so the possibility of being able to head down to my local multiplex and see a film which calmly, even-handedly but passionately paints a true picture of oil and our relationship to it is...nothing short of miraculous.
It's a real thrill for me to be in at the ground floor of a film which could have a seismic effect on public perceptions of the oil industry and the wider system that it serves. My advice is that if you're in a position to move some of your money into something that will make things better, do it. We may be the last generation of this species who still have the opportunity to turn things around and build a safe, truly sustainable, socially just future."
GH
Stupid's biggest ever funder
"My friend took me to see The Age of Stupid and I realised that of all the many issues facing the world today, climate change is the most important. When you have money, everyone needs it and it's a great privilege to support people, but you have to decide where your money will do the most good.
My two themes have always been the environment and women, but I’d become overwhelmed and disillusioned by campaigns in the past - for instance when I went to Brazil and saw the destruction of the rainforests first hand, and how ineffective the attempts to stop it have been. So when I saw the film I thought, “this is our last chance, this is the most important thing there is”. I think we're at the brink of a change in consciousness. The transition to a low carbon society is not going to be painless, but we can also hang onto some hope, and that's what this is.
After watching the film I felt incredibly happy as I realised that I could give money to something that was really effective. So I feel really excited and privileged to be a part of something so extraordinary and so potentially powerful as a tool for change."
JEREMY D - LESS SYNDICATE
"I just wanted to say that you lot are well exceeding any of my expectations in terms of the crazy things you must be catching on camera. From New O to Nigeria to the Alps and Jordan - what a ride! Don't be knocked by anything that seems to get in the way. (Not that you ever do) And good luck in the next stages. I particularly remember you saying that the timing was late. I still don't think so. In my humble opinion, there is a lot more story-mileage in the oil price yet, let alone the climate. The story you are stitching has probably never been told right. It has never been personalised. Best of luck, heroes!
