Great turnout in Turnhout

Date 28th Apr 2009

Turnhout

Turnhout is not quite Bruges, but still has plenty of medieval architecture to go around. Lizzie wasn't there to scuffle with midgets or execute her errant hit-man partner though; no, she was there to talk about Stupid at Open Doek, a humungous Belgian film festival with 50,000 visitors every year.

About 150 people turned out for the first of their screenings of Stupid. Lizzie did an interview for the green party there, an interview for the festival website and met the president of the festival.

Open Doek has decided to make a long term commitment to go to zero carbon and they used our screening to launch this new five year initiative.

Lizzies reports that,

"They did their own 'kebab' with the cinema manager (mainsteam multiplex) about how the cinema chain should be more eco. I couldn't understand what they were saying as it was all in Dutch but I heard 'kyoto', 'obama' and 'wind surfers'."

Lizzie shlepped over land and under sea to get to her 5 minute Q&A before the film.

Then she pootled home again.

The organisers were well chuffed: "Always feels good to see that people all over the world are into 'not stupid' stuff."

Any time Lizzie's in Turnhout, she knows she'll have a drinking partner to keep her company.
